Product Introduction

Product Introduction of Alkylphenol Disulfide (CAS No.: 60303-68-6)

Basic Information

Alkylphenol disulfide, with the English name Poly-tert-butylphenoldisulfide, is a crucial rubber vulcanizing agent. It typically appears as light yellow granules or pale yellow powder, with a softening point ranging from 95°C to 115°C and a sulfur content between 28% and 31%.

Chemical Properties

Alkylphenol disulfide contains active sulfur, which can vulcanize rubber when heated. The vulcanized rubber exhibits no blooming, high tensile strength, and excellent heat resistance. This compound is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, and other solvents.

Applications

  1. Rubber Vulcanizing Agent: Alkylphenol disulfide serves as a vulcanizing agent for natural rubber, diene-based synthetic rubbers, and butyl rubber, particularly suitable for the vulcanization of chlorinated butyl rubber. In semi-efficient and efficient vulcanization systems, it can partially or completely replace sulfur, DTDM, and other sulfur donors.

  2. Rubber Product Applications: It is primarily used in tire inner liners, sidewalls, tread compounds, and bead fillers, as well as in seals, conveyor belts, automotive hoses, shock absorbers, and other rubber products.

  3. Adhesion Promotion and Antioxidation: Due to the presence of alkylphenol groups, alkylphenol disulfide offers adhesion promotion and antioxidation effects, facilitating the bonding between rubber and rubber, as well as between rubber and metals.

  4. Simultaneous Vulcanization: When vulcanizing rubber blends such as natural rubber with chlorinated butyl rubber, brominated butyl rubber, butyl rubber, ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, etc., it enables the simultaneous vulcanization of various rubber components. The vulcanized rubber exhibits high strength and excellent heat aging resistance.

Packaging and Storage

Alkylphenol disulfide is typically packaged in 25kg kraft paper bags or plastic bags. It should be stored in a dry, ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight, and kept away from strong oxidizing agents.

Safety Information

During the vulcanization process, alkylphenol disulfide does not generate nitrosamine toxic gases, similar to those produced by sulfur donors like DTDM, making its operation relatively safe. Nevertheless, appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, should be worn during handling to prevent skin contact and eye irritation.
